WHAT IS SHADES OF YELLOW?
Shades of Yellow (SOY) is the first Hmong Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender (GLBT) organization that support Hmong GLBT individuals, non-Hmong GLBT individuals, families, friends, and allies.
MISSION
The mission of SOY is to provide support, education, cultural awareness, social gatherings, and advocacy to Hmong GLBT, SOY members, families, allies and the Hmong community in the Twin Cities. The four components SOY is working towards are:
1. Community Outreach: Network with different support groups and organizations to build diverse links of improvement to better share the visions and goals as an organization and to serve those who seek help within the community at large
Outreach to the community, the media, GLBT individuals and allies by way of providing communication, resources, and information to the community, the media, GLBT individuals and allies in reference to Hmong GLBT issues and information related to the Hmong culture
2. Education: Promoting a positive dialogue concerning GLBT issues in the Hmong Community
Strengthing and encouraging members in all areas of promoting higher education
3. Social: Provide an environment that is inviting, positive, optimistic, and free from turmoil for excutive board, Hmong GLBT, SOY members, families and allies
4. Support: Provide guidance, leadership, direction and management to Hmong GLBT and allies with regards to issues concerning their sexual orientation, family crisis, social environment, and cultural concerns
GOALS AND VISIONS
SOY's goals and visions are to build a bridge between the Hmong community and the Hmong GLBT community.
1. Promote diversity
2. Promote safe and open dialogues between individuals and the community
3. Build a bridge to close the gaps
4. Valuing all particpants involvement and interested
5. Serve as a liaison to the Hmong community with regards to GLBT issues
