Vice President
Kevin Xiong is currently attending Devry University as a senior with a degree in Business Administration and Human Resources. He is currently a recruiter for Direct Source in Chanhassen, MN. He is fortunate to have very accepting family members and thus able to pursue his passion with SOY. He is currently sitting on the board of Hmong American Partnership and was the Finance/Fundraiser Coordinator for the Friends of Pakou Hang Campaign.

When Kevin finds time out of his busy schedule to do things for fun, he likes to surf the internet, be with friends, have long conversations with his mom, and EAT! His passion in life is to make SOY nationally and worldly known, and his concentration in recruiting and training also means he would have to go back to grads school for a Masters in Human Resources Management or Public Administration Management. Once these goals are successfully accomplish, the void he has for this passion will ultimately cease.

Outreach Coordinator
Born in Thailand and arrived in the United States at age 5, Xeng moved to Detroit, Michigan from Fresno, California in 1989. The oldest of six, he took care of his siblings growing up. His parents own restaurants and were always busy providing a safe roof for the kids.

The thought of same sex attraction had always crossed his mind. Growing up Xeng felt different from his brothers and male cousins. When boys started eyeing girls, his eyes were kept glued to boys. He stated, “ I didn’t know what gay was at the age of 8, but I knew that I was attracted to boys.” Growing up he felt lost and out of place.

Xeng and his family moved to Maple Grove, Minnesota in June, 2000 to open a restaurant. A year later he attended North Hennepin College majoring in “Business and Theatre”. After an offer from Talent Scouts and Talent Agencies to go to LA for a week of Hollywood audition casting calls, he took advantage of the opportunity. After audition, he was offered a few contracts with LA Talent and Modeling Agencies. He dropped out of college and was looking forward to full fill the contracts. But only 19, his parents disapproved his desire of pursuing a career in show biz, because of their own reasons. As a result, he started a foundation for his own film company, called “MC Films” and stayed in Minnesota to help his parents.

In 2004, after writing an article in “Hmong Today”, Phai Xiong contacted Xeng for lunch, to talk about each other’s personal struggles for being gay Hmong. During the meeting they shared their ideas on what they would like to see and do to help the GLBT Hmong with Minnesota and around the world.

Phai and Xeng attended bi-weekly meeting held by straight allies on how to approach supporting GLBT Hmong. After about 3 months of attending the gathering which was called “GLBT Hmong Task Force” at the time, Phai and Xeng felt as thought not much was being done beside talking about the subject and laying out great ideas and concerns toward the GLBT Hmong.
